You Can Reveal Everything And No One Will See

In the alleyway, on the brick wall, I show you the message spray-painted there:

“The world is swept away …

Once you can read it, I say, you’ll know you are ready to understand it.

There is good art, I say, but there is also bad art. There is health, yet there is also illness. There is success, and there is, too, failure. In fact, ultimately, everything fails.

You react to that however you do, internally or aloud.

Then we carry on down the alley.

“I grew up here, but I’m not from here,” I say. “I’ve said that a lot in this town. Later on, when I would move off-world and to the Homeworld—you know, the Home Dub, da Home Squirr—then I would be saying something similar, right? I was born here, but I’m not from here.”

I look at you briefly and smile. “I guess I’m not from anywhere.”

You say something, perhaps reassuring, perhaps chiding.

I shrug. “It’s just a feeling, is all. An observation.”

We come out the other end of the alley and are near Hex House.

“You still wanna go to this thing?” I ask. “We can always say fuck it and bail.”

If you want to go to Hex House, then we do. We might meet Reg, Loona, and Jessiree there. They tend to be there.

If you wanna fuck off and go someplace else, we can walk further down the road and head out into the deep woods nearby, the ones that go north even though it says west. Or we could go to The Darkhorse across the street. Or back to the Brube. Or we can go literally anywhere in town you’d like to go and do whatever you’d like. The night is yours, babe. The heart of Saturday night.

Play procedures:

  • If you know Reg, Loona, and/or Jessiree, think about what you’re relationship with them is like. You can write a bit about each of them, if you want. If you don’t know them and would like to, think about your preconceived notions based on their names and that they are at this place, the Hex House.
  • Hex House can be a magickal kind of place. So if you want to bring an intention in there for spellcasting purposes, it’s a good time and place to do it. It’s a decadent kind of vibe in there, though, and a lot of folks will be vying for attention, doing their own spells, working their own shit out. So be kind and share, and get what you need. Or be stingy and self-indulgent and leave with a curse or two. Up to you, babe.
  • If you chose the deep woods, there will be more to come, eventually. Make sure you know what we’re taking in there—that is, what we have and what we do not. Check our current status, too. Are we tired, intoxicated, frustrated—or are we in good shape. We’ll need to know that stuff later.
