Quick Update, Late June 2023

Welp, I am finally starting to feel like I can begin <sigh> to get my life back together after having been sick. I don’t really have firm plans, and everything is subject to change cos life. But here’s what’s on my mind rn:
How do we stop real-world supervillians?
You’re probably aware that a certain irl supervillain recently proclaimed that ‘cis’ and ‘cisgender’ are slurs and will be grounds for account suspension. I just can’t even with this kind of asshole, piece of shit-like behavior. Yet it gives rise to the question: What can we actually do about proper villainy in our worlds? That’s a legit question. I really don’t know. But I will make this request: If you haven’t left Twitter, please consider doing so.
Upcoming music review
Imma write a personal essay-ish, non-professional music review of the Jim Croce version of “I Got a Name.” Stay tuned for that. If you’re even a few years younger than I am, you might need to look up who Jim Croce is first. So, advance notice.
Tumblrweeds
The magnificently awesome Dom over at wrote a great nl about the slow and agonizingly painful demise of Ello. You know, the most recent one. We’ve relocated to tumblr which has been … weird, even by Ello standards. More on that later. You know, probably.
Wildfires
I went to Los Angeles, and there were no wildfires. I returned to the Old Dominion and there is a haze of smoke from effing Canada. The world is upside down. But what’s new, amiright?
Another month goes by
Dad’s been dead for five months. Even by the draconian standards of the DSM, that’s not a sufficient time for bereavement. Yet I find myself trying to move on from it.
I had a dream—albeit a very brief one—wherein Lila woke me up to tell me Dad had died. Shit, I don’t think I have written that chapter yet, so, spoilers? But it was very much like what had actually happened, except this time I felt something. Soooo, progress?
The Backbone
I’m still working on it, m’kay. For those of you who may be tired of it, I’m sorry. I work at the pace the piece—and my life—demands. To those of you who are reading and playing along, thank you very much for your kindness, patience, and understanding—particularly if I haven’t gotten back to you yet. I hope to do that soon, and I hope you’ll enjoy what’s coming next. But even if you don’t, sincerely, thank you for being there.
D&D
I’m getting together a Dungeons & Dragons campaign for the first time in about a decade I think. Maybe longer? I’ve been playing with my kids, so I guess I should clarify that I mean an adult campaign.
Will there be a live play? At first, deffo not. Maybe over time, if it goes well, and the other players want that. But I will post updates about it over on for those who might be curious or interested. We may open it up to more players, as well. Again, I will keep you posted.
Principia Discordia
That means this is the time in my life when I get to learn how to use Discord and have a ‘private Discord server’ as an amenity for paid subscribers of this nl or the other. So, stay tuned for that.
