One More Will Do It

Story path: Desi

The rectangle of black glass briefly pulses with light.

Desi recognizes the signal, and feels the nervous system coming alive. The muscle memory locks in.

“I have this in hand,” Desi says.

A few seconds crawl by.

Desi picks up the rectangle, which activates upon touch and shows the picture.

She looks familiar to Desi, but again, the exact recollection is not available.

Desi swipes at the glass a few times, and a pattern of flashes responds, indicating that the contract went through.

Desi sighs and sits on the bed.

One more will do it, Desi thinks. Then I am done forever. This time it will work.

Play procedures

  • This chapter is an exception to others on the Desi story path. Because of the great distraction going on in the brain, Desi is not aware you are there. No roll needed.
  • You may add “I Walked All Night” to your song grimoire.
  • Write about a time when you wanted to resist something but found yourself unable and then justified your cave-in as a necessary thing. Therein lies a secret to defeating Desi and similar adversaries.
